- 1 lb (450g) beef sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain - 2 cups broccoli florets - 1 red bell pepper, sliced For a great stir fry, use fresh beef sirloin. Slice it thinly against the grain. This cuts the fibers for a tender bite. Next, grab some vibrant broccoli florets. They add color and crunch. Lastly, choose a firm red bell pepper. This pepper brings sweetness and a nice crunch to the dish. - 1/4 cup honey - 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce - 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated The sauce is what makes this dish pop! For sweetness, use honey. It gives a glossy finish. Next, low-sodium soy sauce adds that savory flavor. This sauce balances well with the sweetness. Fresh ginger brightens the dish with a warm spice. Grate it for a smooth mix. - Sesame seeds - 2 green onions, chopped for garnish - Cooked jasmine rice for serving Garnishes make your dish look fancy! Sprinkle sesame seeds for a nutty crunch. Chopped green onions add color and freshness. Serve the stir fry over jasmine rice. This fluffy rice soaks up the sauce and rounds out the meal. {{ingredient_image_1}} Mixing the sauce In a small bowl, mix together honey, soy sauce, grated ginger, and cornstarch. This sauce gives the dish its sweet and savory flavor. Set the bowl aside while you prepare the other ingredients. Slicing the beef and vegetables Take 1 lb of beef sirloin and slice it thinly against the grain. This helps keep the beef tender. Next, slice 1 red bell pepper and chop 2 cups of broccoli florets. Having everything prepped makes cooking easier. Stir-frying beef Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the sliced beef and season it with salt and pepper. Stir-fry the beef for about 2-3 minutes until it gets a nice brown color. Be careful not to overcook it. Remove the beef from the skillet and set it aside. Cooking vegetables In the same skillet, add another tablespoon of oil. Toss in the minced garlic and sliced red bell pepper. Stir-fry these for about 2 minutes until the pepper softens a bit. Add the broccoli florets next. Keep stir-frying for 3-4 minutes. The broccoli should be bright green and tender-crisp at this point. Adding sauce to stir-fry Return the beef to the skillet with the cooked vegetables. Pour the honey-soy sauce mixture over everything. Add 1/4 cup of water to help the sauce coat the dish. Stir all the ingredients together until they are well combined. Thickening the sauce Cook everything for another 2-3 minutes. This allows the sauce to thicken and heat the dish through. Once it looks good, you’re ready to serve! Choosing the right cut of beef I love using beef sirloin for this stir fry. It is tender and full of flavor. Slice it thinly against the grain. This makes each bite soft and easy to chew. If you can’t find sirloin, flank steak works well too. How to achieve tender broccoli To get tender broccoli, cook it just enough. First, steam the florets for a few minutes before adding them to the stir fry. This keeps the bright green color and crunch. You can also add them to the pan last. This way, they cook quickly but stay crisp. Adding spices or chili peppers If you want some heat, add chili flakes or sliced fresh peppers. This gives a nice kick to the dish. You can also mix in a bit of black pepper for extra flavor. Just a pinch can go a long way. Experimenting with other vegetables Don’t feel stuck with just broccoli and bell pepper. Try adding snap peas, carrots, or even mushrooms. Each vegetable adds its own taste and texture. This keeps your stir fry exciting and fresh every time. Best sides to pair with the dish Serve your stir fry over jasmine rice. The rice soaks up the sweet sauce well. You can also use brown rice or even quinoa for a health boost. For a fun twist, serve it in lettuce wraps. Presentation tips for an appealing plate Make your plate pop with color! Arrange the stir fry neatly on the rice. Sprinkle extra sesame seeds and green onions on top. A bright dish is always more inviting. Enjoy the look before you dig in! Pro Tips Slice Against the Grain: Always slice your beef against the grain to ensure tenderness and a better chew. Use Fresh Ingredients: Fresh garlic and ginger will elevate the flavors of your stir fry, making it more aromatic and flavorful. Adjust Sweetness: Feel free to adjust the amount of honey in the sauce to suit your sweetness preference—add more for a sweeter dish or less for a savory kick. Prep Your Ingredients: Have all your ingredients prepped and ready to go before you start cooking, as stir frying is a quick process and everything cooks fast! {{image_2}} You can switch the beef for chicken or shrimp. Both options work well and add new flavors. Chicken breast cooks quickly and stays juicy. Shrimp cooks fast and absorbs the sauce well. For a vegetarian choice, try tofu. Firm tofu holds its shape and takes on the delicious sauce. If you need a gluten-free option, use tamari instead of soy sauce. Tamari gives the same rich taste without gluten. For those watching calories, cut back on honey and use less oil. You can also add more veggies to keep the meal filling and light. Incorporate seasonal vegetables for fresh flavors. In spring, add snap peas or asparagus. In fall, try butternut squash or mushrooms. Adjust the sauce by adding citrus zest for a bright kick or using different spices for a festive touch during holidays. Each change brings new life to your dish. To store leftovers, let the dish cool first. Use an airtight container to keep it fresh. This method keeps the flavors intact and prevents spills. You can safely store the stir fry in the fridge for up to three days. If you notice any off smells or colors, it's best to toss it. For freezing, portion the stir fry into smaller containers. This makes it easier to thaw only what you need. Wrap each container tightly to avoid freezer burn. Honey garlic beef and broccoli stir fry can last up to three months in the freezer. When you’re ready to eat, thaw it overnight in the fridge. Reheat in a skillet over medium heat for the best texture. Meal prepping this dish is a smart choice. You can chop the veggies and slice the beef a day ahead. Store them in separate containers in the fridge. When you're ready to cook, it takes just minutes to stir-fry. Portion out meals into containers for quick lunches or dinners. Pair with jasmine rice for a complete meal. To reduce the sweetness, cut back on honey. Use only 2 tablespoons instead of 1/4 cup. You can also add more soy sauce for a saltier taste. Adding a splash of rice vinegar can help balance flavors. Try this mix for a savory kick. You can also include more garlic or ginger to deepen the flavor. These changes will keep the dish tasty while making it less sweet. Yes, you can use frozen broccoli. It is easy and saves time. Frozen broccoli is often picked at peak ripeness. This means it still has great flavor and nutrients. When using frozen broccoli, you may need to adjust cooking time. Cook it a bit longer until it is hot and tender. Make sure to drain any excess water from the frozen broccoli before adding it to the stir fry. This will help the dish stay crisp and flavorful. You can make several dishes using the same ingredients. For example, toss the beef and broccoli in a salad for a fresh meal. You can also create a beef and broccoli soup by adding broth and noodles. Another option is to make a stir-fry with chicken or shrimp. This will give you a new flavor while using the same veggies. If you have leftover sauce, use it in a glaze for grilled chicken or fish.
