Ingredients

  • 2.75 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1.5 cups white sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 0.75 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar (for rolling)
  • 0 optional colored sprinkles or edible glitter for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, using an electric mixer, cream together the softened butter and 1 ½ cups of white sugar until smooth and creamy.
  4. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry mixture to the creamed mixture, mixing until fully incorporated.
  6. Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough and roll them into balls. Roll each ball in the extra granulated sugar to coat.
  7. Space the dough balls about 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheets. If desired, gently flatten each ball with a fork or the bottom of a glass to create a crisscross pattern.
  8. If using, sprinkle colorful edible sprinkles or glitter on top of each cookie before baking.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  10. Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
